Armitage works primarily with painting and drawing. His painting practice is concerned with the intersections of observation, memory and feeling, combining sensory experience with various approaches to applying paint in the hope of conveying, replicating or conjuring remembered experiences from his past. His work has a particular interest in place and often looks at how environment and architecture is imbued with spirituality, memory and feeling. Currently showing in Its Real Outside at Dept.Con.Temporary, Deptford, 16 Sept - 1 Oct and Gertrude Presents at Truman Brewery, 5 Oct - 9 Oct. Recent exhibitions include Moderato Cantabile at Stoppenbach and Delestre, London, “Hope” is the thing with feathers at South Parade, Deptford, Dialogues No.01 at the Centre for Recent Drawing, London UK, and a presentation at Sunday Painter gallery as part of Condo 2020, curated by Lulu gallery Mexico City.
