Travel Information
Tube / Metro: Please note that we are actually on the train station platform but you do not have to purchase a ticket to visit us, you just need to ask to visit Banner Repeater, or the gallery, and you will be let up without having to pay. If you arrive by train, please ensure you pass your card out to avoid being charged the maximum fare. Getting here: Overground Network Rail from Liverpool st, Seven Sisters, Chingford - Hackney Downs - platform 1. Overground Network Rail to Hackney Central (connects to Dalston) - there is a new walkway connecting the two stations - approx 3 min walk or a short 3 minute walk left out of station and follow Amhurst road to Dalston lane - left and 200 yds under the railway bridge. Buses - stop outside 56, 30. Buses - stop 1 minute round the corner, on Amhurst rd: 38, 55, 253, 242, 106, 276, 48.
Banner Repeater is an Artist-led contemporary art space: a reading room, and experimental project space, founded by Ami Clarke in 2010.
The project is driven by its location, on Hackney Downs train station, platform 1, dedicated to developing critical art in the natural interstice the platform and incidental footfall of over 11,000 passengers a day provides. This is achieved by rush-hour opening times that attract commuters, and an open door policy maintained 6 days a week.
Banner Repeater works with artists to develop new works, through an ambitious exhibition programme installed in a highly visible and accessible project space, with a programme of events, talks, and performances, to introduce discussion and encourage debate of key issues in art today.
The reading room holds a permanently sited public archive of Artists’ Publishing, that provides an important bibliographic resource that all visitors to BR can browse, alongside a Digital Archive of Artists’ Publishing; an interactive user-driven database that constitutes a working research model - a tool as well as an electronic commons for the exchange of detailed information. https://daap.network/
