Springfield Arts
Builth Wells, United Kingdom
10am - 4pm Sat + Sun

Cold wax is a medium used with oil paint to provide lustrous texture and depth to paintings. Develop paintings by using a diverse range of techniques including building layers using cold wax medium, working with oil paint, powdered pigments and embedded materials.
We will explore texture, line, shape, value, colour and composition through small abstract studies and apply these findings in a larger piece of work. Working collectively as a group through experimentation, discussion and demonstrations, this course aims to give you a broad understanding of the materials and methods used for working with oil paint and cold wax medium. Some prior experience of working with oil paint would be useful.
Cold Wax Medium and painting supports will be provided for this course. A materials list and advice on working with Cold Wax will be given out on enrolment.
Nicki Heenan is an Art Educator/Artist who lives in Wiltshire. She appears in a new book on Cold Wax which is the first book ever to be written about this exciting technique.
You are welcome to meet on Friday evening for a briefing with canapés and drinks. The course starts each morning at 10am, with a delicious home cooked meal at 12. An afternoon tea will be provided and the day finishes at 4pm, leaving the afternoon yours to continue your artwork or to explore the local activities (canoeing the Wye, beautiful walks, cycle routes and charming restaurants).
