an art of conviviality

About

ajaykumar's temporary installation references various rituals associated with tea and welcome. 'the way of tea: an art of conviviality' concentrates on the presentation of a contemporary tea ceremony and garden that engages with philosophic and spiritual concepts. A contemporary tea ceremony and garden involving spectator concentration and interaction: it is a performative, musical, and architectural experience. The installation is conceived by as part of a research project of Goldsmiths, University of London, called '8'. Please visit their website at: www.8-technology.net or search for group '8-technology' on Facebook. ajaykumar's website: www.ajaykumar.com The Tea Ceremony in Japan, known as Sado (the Way of Tea) is a sophisticated interactive and immersive art experience. It is multi-sensory and involving of multiple media. It is what seminal designer Adolphe Appia called a ‘living art', based on Buddhist philosophy, to develop the sense of the sacred in our daily lives and in life as a whole. The tea garden is integral to the ceremony: the journey through it facilitating the spectators' journey from the world of daily life to the realm of the sacred. November 5th — 26th 2009 FREE Entry
