The Lightbox reopens on 3 December with an exciting winter line-up, including the hugely popular exhibition 'Raphael: Prince Albert's Passion'

About

Following the latest Government guidance, The Lightbox gallery and museum is pleased to announce its reopening on 3 December. We would like to sincerely thank our supporters, volunteers and wonderful community for their support throughout a challenging year and we greatly look forward to welcoming back visitors for the festive season. We have followed guidance carefully to ensure safety measures are in place across the building so that everyone’s visit will be safe and enjoyable.

The blockbuster exhibition Raphael: Prince Albert’s Passion will reopen (3 December - 31 January 2021). 2020 marks the 500th anniversary of the death of Raphael and The Lightbox is the only gallery in the UK to be mounting an exhibition about the Renaissance master this year. The exhibition relays the fascinating story of Prince Albert’s passion for Raphael and his creation of the Raphael Collection at Windsor Castle. Tickets will be available to pre-book online from the 26 November.

Also on show will be We Think the World of You: People and Dogs Drawn Together by David Remfry RA (3 December - 3 January 2021) This exhibition reveals the mutual understanding and sympathy of these partnerships. The series started 15 years ago in New York when Remfry, a resident of the infamous Chelsea Hotel, began to explore the relationships between friends and their dogs through evocative pencil and watercolour portraits. Among the sitters are well-known faces including Alan Cumming, Susan Sarandon, and Ethan Hawke.

Free family workshops will also be on offer during the festive season. Highlights include Cork Reindeers - a creative drop-in workshop on the 23 December and Storytelling for Under 5’s - stories, rhymes and hands on creative activities for early years on 15 December. Capacities are limited for these activities to assist with social distancing.

In addition to an exciting exhibition and learning programme Seasons Café & Kitchen will be serving delicious seasonal specials, hot drinks and a children's menu. The Lightbox Shop will showcase a carefully curated selection of locally-sourced arts, crafts, jewellery and books, all of which would make for ideal Christmas gifts and stocking fillers.

Like many charities and small businesses The Lightbox has been hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis. If you are able please consider becoming a Lightbox Member or purchasing a gift membership for a friend, all proceeds directly support the charity and are greatly appreciated. Prices start at £30 and benefits include free access to exhibitions for a year and a 10% discount in the shop and café.

Raphael: Prince Albert’s Passion will be on show at The Lightbox in Woking, Surrey, from 3 December 2020 – 31 January 2021. Tickets available to pre book online from 26 November for the period 3 -14 December, following that tickets will be available to pre book every Monday for the week ahead.
