Referencing the 'Time's Up' movement juxtaposed with the myth of Leda and the Swan, Nicolette Carter presents beautiful figurative paintings at Skylark Galleries 1 Gabriel's Wharf.
Combining Pre-Raphaelite and Romantic Art influences with a 21st century point of view, Nicolette Carter’s works express a strong female perspective. Juxtaposing ideas within the Time's Up movement and the myth of Leda and the Swan, Nicolette’s works are both delicate and powerful. These paintings are inspired by mythology, strong women and the swans on the River Thames in Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
Nicolette Carter’s works begin with observational sketches and 'action painting'. Her painting processes employ combinations of poured and splashed paint with fine detail worked in utilising glazes and opaque paints.
Nicolette will be at the gallery to meet with visitors on Sunday 10th Februray from 12noon til 5pm. As part of her feature, Nicolette will give a brief talk at 3.30pm on that day entitled "Time's Up", exploring the representation of girls and women in historical and modern painting. These is a free event and open to all`; we look forward to welcoming you!
