Sarah Gürsoy-Heuser's show "Listen to Britain" at Skylark Galleries 2 is a powerful meditation on identity and the breaking away from Europe and its shared dreams.
Sarah Gürsoy-Heuser's current work explores ideas of national identity and collective memory; how land and borders become central sites for tension. Sarah creates works that are multi-layered, encapsulating historical strata, memory and a sense of place. These powerful works are now on show at Skylark Galleries 2 in OXO Tower until 17th February.
Wood-cuts of fragmented landscapes/seascapes layered with text hint at current news: the breaking away from Europe by Britain. These powerful monochromatic large-format works are shown side by side with her mixed materials graphics/printed plates and ceramic shard inlay 'pinch' pots, creating an immersive experience for the viewer.
Sarah is a printmaker and artist who works from her studio in Catford; she also teaches printmaking at Lewisham School of Art and Design. This show is the artist's first feature with Skylark Galleries.
Sarah will be in the gallery at OXO Tower on 9th February: from noon she will give a brief talk about her work and influences, and from 5pm-7pm we will hold the Private View for this show. These events are free and we look forward to welcoming you to this thought provoking and timely installation at the gallery.
