An exhibition of new abstracted and reworked Spanish landscape paintings by this exciting emerging artist.

About

Nick Carrick studied at Chelsea School of Art and Design (Foundation) as well as Coventry University (BA Fine Art). He is interested in exploring the possibilities of abstraction, taking as his starting point the great British Modernists of the 20th century (Auerbach, Bacon etc).

In his new series of paintings Nick Carrick take his source from the landscape in Spain in Valencia, inland in showing pueblos, woodlands with olive and fruit trees,

valleys as well as on the coast. Whilst the place is important as a starting point, Nick Carrick wants the paintings to be seen more as triggers for the viewer to add their story than of a specific place which may only have meaning for the artist.

During the summer in 2019 paintings on paper by Nick Carrick toured major

contemporary art museums in China as part of an exhibition called “A Letter Home”, curated by Contemporary British Painting. He was shortlisted and exhibited in their first 2016 open show.

Nick Carrick has exhibited widely in London and the South East, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

In 2015 Nick Carrick's painting "Night Shift" was selected by Tom Hammick for the Towner Gallery Exhibition "Towards Night" alongside works by Peter Doig, Julian Opie, Ken Kiff, Craigie Aitchison and many other well established artists.

In 2006 he was a resident at the Pouch Cove Foundation, Newfoundland, Canada; and in 2017 Artist in residence at Manor Laurette Bordeaux.
