Knockdown Center is pleased to announce NASTY WOMEN, a group exhibition that serves to demonstrate solidarity among artists who identify with being a Nasty Woman in the face of recent and ongoing threats to women’s rights.

About

NASTY WOMEN aims to act as a catalyst for conversation, organization, and action preceding the Presidential Inauguration on January 20, 2016. The exhibition invites self-identifying Nasty Women to contribute artwork to be sold for $100 or less, with all proceeds given to Planned Parenthood.

Artwork submissions will be displayed on large-scale block letters that spell N-A-S-T-Y W-O-M-E-N, serving both as a display apparatus and as a monument. All submissions are due by December 23, 2016. Artwork can be 2D or 3D, and can incorporate sound and video, but all submissions must be no larger than 12” in any direction.

NASTY WOMEN is the result of an artist’s call for action on social media that was quickly answered and continues to be shared across the country and internationally. Given the level of far-reaching interest, the exhibition producers have designed a concept that could be easily-replicated by other artists and organizers in their own communities. To learn more about submission requirements and details, or to organize a NASTY WOMEN exhibition in your city, visit nastywomenexhibition.org.

Exhibition hours are 5:00-9:00pm Thursday and Friday, and 2:00-8:00pm Saturday and Sunday. The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of performances and events designed to cultivate discourse, resistance, and healing within and across communities increasingly at risk at this critical moment. Join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, using the hashtag #nastywomenexhibition.
