People who have saved this event:

Lynne Cartlidge’s fascination with natural light and the way in which it falls and moves with the passing of time, is predominant in her practice. In this new body of work Cartlidge looks at city spaces bathed in autumnal light, the stillness of the scene belying the business of the environment.

As the days start to shorten and the quality of light begins to change, a sense of lazy quietness mixed with purposeful energy creates a delicious tension and anticipation as we look toward winter approaching. Lynne Cartlidge’s urban landscapes are a gentle observation of ordinary city spaces, such as a local park or a car lined, residential street. The paintings are remarkable in the quality of their stillness, whilst retaining a sense of purposeful energy we so quickly associate with autumn. Cartlidge’s rich palette reflect the changing colours around us as leaves turn and fall, her shadows lengthening across the canvas into deep plum coloured, dramatic pattern with musical rhythm.
