About
In her paintings, Linda Hemmersbach seeks to discover transitions from conscious to unconscious, visible to invisible. Resulting from a long process of observation of her environment, moments of resonance are extracted and abstracted into spaces of silence and meditation. The atmosphere within the paintings often tends toward the fragile and mysterious, considering qualities of uncertainty and doubt. Recent works engage with the notion of shifting; a moment caught between movement and stillness. Folds, delicate structures and rhythmic arrangements of lines suggest the infinity of matter and the inflexions of the mind. Certain motifs reappear in different works, perhaps insisting on an unseen knowledge or meaning. Some paintings contain two images side-by-side; implying a narrative unfolding, continuing off the canvas.
