An open drop-in workshop that aims to make new systems for the home from old washing machine parts.
The idea is for visitors, whatever their past experience with washing machines, to use what they know to think about ways to work differently with the parts of washing machine and to learn something new in the process about the washing machine as a technical object and as a cultural agent.Samantha's project is part of MilesKM's 2017-18 project, PACTO, whose focus is on the group negotiation of autonomy.
The workshop takes place at the Remakery, a co-operative workshop space that diverts waste materials away from landfill and supports the community in Brixton in increasing their skills, confidence and employment opportunities.
Visitors can approach the workshop in a number of ways - they can help with a project already started, start a new project, play with the accompanying washing-machine based resources which will accompany the main workshop, or have a conversation with the artist about the project. Instructions and parts for suggested projects will be available.
