Program
- History of Japanese ceramics
- Wabi Sabi's concept
- Work on the potter's wheel
- Preparation of ash-glazes, shino, tenmoku etc.
- High-Temperature Wood firing in Sasukenei - Smokeless Kiln (36h)
- Introduction to smoke-free wood firing
- Tea ceremony and Sushi making
The course fee includes:
- Integration in small working groups (4 to 6 people);
- Training 6 - 8 hours/day with technical assistant, spoken in English and Portuguese;
- Studio open 12 hours a day;
- All materials;
- Shared room accommodation in our Residences (shared house with equipped kitchen, changing room, washing machine and Wifi) or 10% discount for individual accommodation with a minimum of 2 nights;
- Welcome dinner.

Masakazu Kusakabe, the ceramicist master dominates fire and the art of wood firing like no one else due thanks to 50 years of experience and yet seeks in each firing a new challenge.Born in Miharu/Japan in 1946 where he still lives and works, his curriculum is filled with international exhibitions and with the construction of the smokeless ceramic kiln, designed by him, all over the world! In 2005, he published the book “Secrets of Japanese Ceramic Wood Fire” in collaboration with the ceramist Marc Lancet.
