Talk by new Director of the Foundling Museum and Antiques Roadshow ceramics expert, Lars Tharp.

About

A violent introduction to ceramics in Hogarth's England. Lars Tharp, the new Director of the Foundling and ceramics expert from the Antiques Roadshow, will give this popular talk for the first time in London. Crockery, pots and fine porcelain teeter, totter and cascade through the lively and sometimes riotous images of Hogarth's dramas. Never innocent bystanders, ceramics actively contribute to the narrative while simultaneously — and fortuitously for the ceramic historian — capturing a whole spectrum of potters' traditions at a time of intense East-West trade wars. A rumbustuous introduction to 18th century ceramics - and to William Hogarth himself, this is a joint event with the Hogarth Group to mark William Hogarth's 311th birthday.
