CHARTA# (lat.: "the paper sheet"' deu.: "the constitution") is a series of four group exhibitions at HAUNT Berlin, which aims to bring together artists based in Berlin whose main medium is drawing.
In 2021 and in 2022, two exhibitions are planned for each year. Each issue of CHARTA # is under a different thematic complex and shows five remarkable positions in each category:
CHARTA #1 - Movement and Space
CHARTA #2 - Identity and Narration
CHARTA #3 - Pattern and Territory
CHARTA #4 - Sound and Order
The exhibition series CHARTA# over a period of 2 years 2021/2022 with 4 exhibitions will take a thematically filtered inventory of relevant drawing positions, wants to explore and push the boundaries of drawing.
In Berlin a widely ramified network of artists has now emerged who devote themselves primarily to the medium of drawing. For them, drawing serves much more than as a means of fixing ideas or as a preparatory and accompanying technique about "major works" in other media. For them, the intensive handling of the line is the primary way to express themselves, that is, to make their engagement with the world visually tangible for others.
For example, “Movement and Space” - CHARTA #1 our first exhibition, leads to a necessary fusion of two- and three-dimensional regularities through a graphic language that connects them. With this exhibition the drawing detaches itself from the one surface and expands into space by covering different architectural elements on different spatial axes simultaneously. In this way, the viewer can practically enter the drawing and the former clarity of a limited surface is dissolved into a spatial experience that can rarely be completely grasped from one point of view and consciously integrates the movements of the viewers' bodies.
