Bas Losekoot is born in Amsterdam in 1979. He received a BA in Photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. He recently completed the MA Photography and Urban Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is working as an art and documentary photographer, developing long-term personal projects that result in photo-essays. His work has been exhibited and published widely. “I always considered the street a spectacle; I spend a lot of time there observing people. The threshold between fact and fiction is what interests me. To me the city is a pressure cooker for the human expression and development. City-life is a continuous stream of split-second meetings. I am convinced the street is a place to learn from; it can hold up a mirror to society. Since the beginning of the Urban Millennium we are facing the biggest wave of urbanization in human history. In my work I try to imagine the effects of this large-scale development of megacities on human behaviour. I would like to create awareness, which can lead to a better understanding, which finally can cause change in complex cultural and political issues.” www.theurbanmillenniumproject.com www.baslosekoot.com
