Instituto Inhotim is a museum of Contemporary Art and Botanical Garden located in Brumadinho (MG), 60 km away from Belo Horizonte (Brazil). Its 140-hectare visitation area is made up of forest fragments and gardens, with an extensive collection of rare tropical species and where contemporary artworks of international and brazilian relevance are displayed. Since Inhotim opened its doors to the public in 2006, 4 million people have visited the museum.
The structure and organization of its space help creating a singular venue, making it one of the main touristic and cultural destinations in Minas Gerais and in Brazil. In addition to breaking away from the architecture and exhibition/visitation modes associated to conventional museums, the Institute offers to its visitors an opportunity of fruition that brings works of art and environmental circuits close together.
Instituto Inhotim is a private nonprofit entity qualified by the Minas Gerais State Administration and by the Federal Administration as a “Public Interest Non- Governmental Organization”), and has the support of Instituto Cultural Vale, Itaú, Cemig and CBMM.
