Bristol Diving School is the name of a building where an artist collective was formed in 2009. The initial objective of the project was to erase the individual authorship of an artwork through negotiation between those collaborating in its conception and production.
Bristol Diving School was adopted as the overarching name for a project that continues to develop. The original site has become a recognised platform for presenting and testing the limits of collaborative art. The project operates both onsite and offsite, extending its practice nationally and internationally.
Bristol Diving School is reconfigured with the annual incorporation of new members, allowing for new approaches and methodologies to shape the trajectory of the project. Collaboration informs the project as both method and subject. As such, all accreditation of work produced is made to Bristol Diving School; the project is the author, the artist.
