Art shouldn’t just be consumed in passing. It can be an intense experience and a part of everyday life with enough time for encountering it – that’s exactly the aspiration of Artothek Niederösterreich. Whether the works brighten your walls or provide occasions for discussion and interpretation at home or your place of work: Art adds flair to the world around you!

And when you are in the mood for something new, you can return or exchange the artistic work after a half year. Or you don’t want to part with it just yet? Then it can remain with you for twelve months.

Since its opening in 2002 on the Kunstmeile Krems the Artothek has made it possible for everyone to borrow contemporary art, affordable and without bureaucracy. Make a selection from approximately 1500 works in the art collection of the Province of Lower Austria. Paintings, prints, and works on paper provide a comprehensive overview of the creative artistic production in Lower Austria. Throughout the 500 square-metre exhibition space you will find diverse formats, an array of different painting and drawing techniques and artistic styles, and professional advisors who are there to help you make a decision about the best fitting work.  

For all of those interested to learn more about art in Lower Austria, we also present two exhibitions per year with works by selected artists and organise studio visits and art talks.
