This week, Faam Gallery's Art Wall features a mesmerising selection of watercolour paintings from the Awaiting Spring Collection of Zahura Sultana

About

Faam Gallery's Art Wall is a place dedicated to promoting talented artists. Every two weeks, a new artist is promoted here. This week's Art Wall features a unique collection of original watercolour paintings from Zahura Sultana, who explores the ‘human-flower’ interaction in her paintings and takes inspiration from seasonal flowers.

Zahura Sultana
Biography

Zahura is a London based artist who was born in 1952 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. After a career in accountancy, she pursued Fine art and in 2013 graduated with Masters in Fine art from Wimbledon College of Arts. She later did Foundation in Art Therapy from Roehampton College and now paints full time from her London studio. Thorough the years, she exhibited in many art galleries and her paintings are held in many private collection, including The Surrey Institute of Art and Design University college.Having worked in oil for many years, Zahura’s  approach to watercolour has an unique aesthetic. Strong bold marks juxtaposed with very delicate strokes, respecting the character of the medium itself.

Zahura is drawn to the ‘human-flower’ interaction, and how this echoes the role of motherhood. Psychologist Donald Winnicott references transitional objects. For Zahura, flowers provide comfort and security. Flowers are sensory beings with diverse textures, scents, and hues. Like a child, flowers respond to nurture. Their beauty and fragility need care in order to blossom; in return their existence fills you with love and gratitude.

In this collection of work Zahura is working in watercolours, drawing her inspiration from seasonal flowers.
