GUAP Magazine and special guests Alex Fefegha and Mykaell Riley discuss breaking into the creative industries as a young black artist.

About

Join GUAP Magazine for Young Kings, a supportive networking event exploring the context of being a young black man in London, with intergenerational guest speakers and inspiring creative role models.

On Thursday 28 June, GUAP Magazine host an evening of presentations, knowledge sharing and networking with designer, maker and coder Alex Fefegha, founder of experimental research firm Comuzi, and music industry consultant Mykaell Riley, Head of Music Production at University of Westminster and Director of the Black Music Research Unit, who will explore the ways young black artists are breaking through and operating outside of traditional systems. Taking inspiration from artists like Stormzy, Skepta, Wiley and BBK who have mastered marketing, merchandising and technology, this event delves into the artistic and professional processes required to enter this movement and the creative industries on your own terms.

GUAP playlists set the soundtrack and light refreshments are provided. You’ll leave inspired, better networked and equipped with a giveaway to help take your ideas to the next level!

Young Kings is an on-going series open to young men aged 16–24 years, offering a safe space to share knowledge, experiences, stories and skills. Each session focuses on increasing awareness, developing professional practice and challenging outmoded narratives about masculinity, blackness and culture. Past Young Kings events have featured speakers from Nike, Sony and VICE, as well as a ‘know your rights’ workshop, empowering young men who face an increased risk of being stopped and searched by police.

GUAP Magazine was co-founded by Jide Adetunji and Ibrahim Kamara in 2015 and is the world’s first Video Magazine – a revolutionary magazine dedicated to discovering emerging creative talent. It seeks to redefine the norm by presenting the world with a new and unique way to recognise the untold, unseen and unforgettable young talent within music, fashion, arts and business globally. It is the only platform in the UK profiling young urban creatives, making it a feeding ground for creative inspiration and entertainment.
