Bluecoat Display Centre is delighted to exhibit a series of ceramics by Japanese ceramicist Yo Thom.

About

After a degree in English Language in Japan Yo came over to Britain and started 3D design course at Kent Institute of Art and Design.

During her introductory course, she was hooked in Ceramics and decided to take BA in Ceramics.

She also started assisting a British Studio Potter, Lisa Hammond whilst at college, and carried on as a full-time apprentice after obtaining MA.

She established her own studio in 2004 producing hand thrown functional stoneware and porcelain with Carbon-trapped Shino Glaze and Blue Celadon glaze. The round and soft forms, grey and orange carbon-trapped shino glaze are the characteristic of her work with surfaces inspired by her love of traditional Japanese indigo fabric and patterns. Her work also has a unique fusion of British and Japanese influence in its form and its use.

Yo’s tableware is made to be functional and to harmonise with food.
