AboutEmerging artist collective, XAP, graduates of Central Saint Martins College, are delighted to announce their selection for a one-month residency at Yinka Shonibare's Guest Projects 2014. Their ambitious, experimental project, âThe Psychotropic House', is an evolving, interactive and multi-sensory art installation, inspired by the futuristic writings of J G Ballard. The bizarrely playful Psychotropic House combines traditional art media with interactive technology to create the interior of a house that responds to your presence. Come on in and explore!
A responsive Lounge reacts to touch; a Twitter feed provokes the Lounge; audio installations create sound-showers in the Whispering Gallery and the screaming Attic. Drifting walls make barriers insubstantial; a projected stairwell burrows into the floor; 2D paintings become mobile in living painting performances. The sensory installations invite engagement, involvement, bewilderment. Through âThe Psychotropic House', XAP explore the influences of art and technology, and how we affect the spaces we inhabit.
A programme of supporting events will encourage a wide range of visitors to the House; a family drawing workshop; a Symposium to provoke discussion within the current art debate; an Open Day for visually impaired audiences.
