Ellis Warren will lead a workshop that encourages us to make sense through drawing and think in non-linear, ‘trans-sensical’ ways.
About
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
What is writing? It is a tactical deployment of meaningful shapes. What is speaking? It is the same but with sounds.
These are the questions being posed in Ellis Warren’s first workshop with us in the Spring at Eye to Pencil.
In his workshop, we will start with, as he describes, ‘the meaningful shapes and sounds of words’, drawing them with an attention to how shapes, colours and textures change their meanings.
We will be making sense through drawing and thinking in non-linear, ‘trans-sensical’ ways. By paying attention to how shapes are also sounds, and sounds are also shapes, we will create new meanings and a new way of making sense of things. His workshop is all about speaking, listening, reading, writing, drawing, and thinking.
Ellis is an artist working with textiles, music and sound. He also goes by the aliases Patchfutures and Othermen (among others). Language, meaning, and synaesthetic thinking are a central focus of his work. He graduated from Goldsmiths in 2022.

THURS EVE SERIES
Our Thursday evening series of workshops will focus on extending drawing through low-tech, low cost, DIY techniques. The creatives leading each workshop are young and emerging, yet each is working in a strong and accomplished way with their approach and materials.
