About
WOW - Weft over Warp
BTG London Tapestry Weavers with Tadek Beutlich (1922-2011) and William Jefferies
London tapestry weavers are back this June for a third time at the Hepsibah Gallery, Hammersmith - the small and perfectly formed gallery in the arty Brackenbury quarter of West London.
This year we are privileged to be able to include the work of the late textile master Tadek Beutlich, courtesy of Liz Hankins, as well as current work by renowned tapestry weaver and teacher, William Jefferies.
The influence of both these artists is seen throughout the exhibition – pushing boundaries of tapestry weaving, 3D effects, and the use of innovative materials.

Further information
Weft over Warp encapsulates the nature of the work, that is to say, tapestry made by weaving strands of yarn horizontally over vertical warps arranged on a frame or loom. Unlike with cloth woven on a loom with long lengths of yarn, the strands are intentionally on the short side to allow for subtlety and creativity. Generally the warps are covered but may not be for effect.
The Exhibitors: BTG London has been in existence for 5 years and has some 15 artist members who regularly exhibit locally and around the country. The British Tapestry Group is the nationwide organisation which supports and promotes the art and craft of handmadetapestry weaving; see www.thebritishtapestrygroup.co.uk
In addition to the two featured artists, there will be about a dozen tapestry weavers, showing some 25 to 30 works, using a variety of materials from fine wool to fabric to recycled plastic.
