About
Wintry brings together painting, installation, drawing, knitting, sculpture, paper-cuts and sound paintings to explore the myth of the European winter.Wintry is a concept which lives within each individual - an instinct to retreat, survive and distract. During the darkest months, we become a concentrated version of ourselves. The force of winter brings us together and separates us. Folklore and myth are born here, as stories are told, retold and reconstructed with each generation.
The works commissioned and assembled by curators Monika Bobinska, Debbie Booth and Brad Clark reflect the mood and concerns of a season as a state of mind and imagination, but also of a season under threat.
There will be some accompanying events during the exhibition, including a night of performance on Saturday 17th November, and a closing night on Sunday 4th December.
A limited edition artists' book will be launched on 17th November.
Wintry closes on 4th December, but will continue to be open by appointment until 20th January.
