Join us at the Hawthornden Lecture theatre as Professor Martin Kemp HRSA delivers the Sir William Gillies Memorial Lecture.

About

Focusing on the exhibition David Hockney in Perspective, curated by Martin Kemp, Martin Gayford and Jane Munro.

The lecture not only looks at the remarkable variety of representational techniques used by Hockney across a wide range of traditional and electronic media but will also pick up themes that have emerged during the course of the exhibition’s preparation, including how painterly marks create illusions of things (with insights from neuroscience) and how “likeness” operates in freely drawn and painted portraits. The latter is a field for future research by the lecturer.

Entry via the Royal Scottish Academy South (Rear) Door entrance.
