About

From a temporary home in The Dairy, Pontcanna, Cardiff, g39 continues its exhibitions programme with Welcome To Your World, a point of departure for Artist Richard Higlett and his contraption the Mobile Sonic, a car rooftop speaker system and mobile platform for Sonic Art. The Mobile Sonic features throughout Higlett's recent Sound Art and public intervention project Don't Shoot The Messenger. Through a rolling programme of interactions in diverse locations, this mobile cultural ‘town crier' explores the use of sound in developing the understanding of place and context, ephemerally engaging with passers-by amongst transitory spaces such as traffic roundabouts. Such interventions in the series include; ALL THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS EXCEPT…, which will see three piece rock band Bear-Man perform inside the vehicle whilst journeying to several Cardiff traffic roundabouts in the alignment of the ‘Great Bear' astrological constellation. Welcome To Your World provides an overview of the course of Richard's thoughts, methodologies and explorations into the many possibilities for the Mobile Sonic, utilising the breadth of the former dairy to present large-scale text pieces and film works alongside floor and wall installations. The exhibition will culminate with a special Artist Talk on Saturday 15 Oct, 11am at The Dairy. This will give audiences a chance to see the adorned Ford Fiesta, engage with the Artist and explore alternative platforms for Sonic Art and creative interventions. The event will also act as a call for interest in future ventures from artists and curators. Attendance is free.
