A group exhibition and performance, which aims to discuss how visa policies have effected people's lives.
About
“Welcome To The UK” is a group exhibition and performance, which aim to discuss how visa policies have affected people’s lives. The curatorial vision of “Welcome To The UK” aims to inquire into the material, affective, performative, spatial and identity politics of cross-border human mobility through a tangible practice that zooms in the intricate border infrastructures entangled with people’s everyday lives, via a figurative space – a pop-up airport.”
The group show will be discussing social politics around creatives living in the UK with visas, how the visa policy influence/dominate people’s lives, practices, plans and identity etc., across different medium and forms by various artists, with 3 core concepts:
• Airport – The show venue
• Luggage – The Space of Space
• The process of artwork setup – a part of the show
While “being wherever you want” seems to be a self-evident freedom of movement, it not only represents “possibilities”, but is also tied up with social mobility and deeply determined by privilege. Privilege is rooted in our lives, it can come from socio-economic, historical and cultural contexts, or even luck, and it shapes every aspect of our lives.
Welcome everyone to enter a pop-up “airport” and walk into the inside world of someone’s swing life — a life full of complex identities, precarity and dreams, as the metastability of the LUGGAGE, it is “ready to move”, and the finiteness of the LUGGAGE, it is “constrained by multiple conditions”.
