Wayne Youle's much anticipated solo exhibition, 40 Days & 40 Nights will open on Friday 5th July at Michael Reid Berlin. The exhibition will be officially opened by Alexandra Smithyman, Deputy Head of Mission of the New Zealand Embassy in Berlin. Please join us from 6 pm.
Wayne Youle's diverse practice is underpinned by his bicultural heritage (Nga Puhi, Ngati Whakaeke, Ngati Pakeha) and background studies in design. Working comfortably across a wide variety of media, Youle’s works, whether collage, painting, mural or sculpture, reflect a fascination with the visual language of popular culture, and a questioning of how history and identity are written. 40 Days & 40 Nights brings together found imagery and two poems, each 40 lines. This new series effectively questions the relationship between text and image, and the values we place upon each.
