About

Warp+Weft is a major contemporary weaving exhibition curated by Laura Thomas, a weaver herself and a pioneer of specialist techniques. Warp+Weft is an exploration of unexpected woven textiles by contemporary artists, all of whom have a reverence for tradition yet are embracing new technology, aesthetics and making methods. The exhibition shows work ranging in size from small hand held pieces, to three dimensional architectural pieces that act as sculpture, all displaying innovative techniques by artists from Suffolk to as far as Japan. A number of these pieces have been made especially for the exhibition, while another macrogauze by a Suffolk textile designer Peter Collingwood, has been exclusively loaned for this exhibition and is a piece originally made for the British Embassy in Brussels. Alongside this exhibition you can see warp+weft: from handloom to production, originally shown at The National Wool Museum in Drefach Felindre, Carmarthenshire and also curated by Laura Thomas. This exhibition showcases some of the very best British weavers who have developed their craft practice into the commercial arena through collaboration with working mills. Please visit the website for more details, or contact the gallery directly on 01284 762081.
