wALL: Un progetto d'arte

Il 24 Novembre presso la Galleria d’Arte Contemporanea di SRISA si apre la mostra “wALL”, un progetto d’arte ideato da Rebecca Olsen.  Artisti locali, Italiani e stranieri sono stati invitati a partecipare a questa installazione inviando via e-mail un breve testo che descrive un proprio lavoro o progetto d’Arte.  I giovani Artisti, Studenti della Santa Reparata International School of Art, insieme a Rebecca Olsen, Direttrice della Scuola ed autrice del progetto, con la collaborazione dei membri del corpo Docenti, hanno installato la mostra di “wALL” riportando i testi relativi ai singoli lavori riscrivendoli direttamente sulle pareti della stessa Galleria.  

“wALL” è un progetto che parla al processo creativo, alle possibilità che la tecnologia oggi fornisce alla comunità artistica.  

La Galleria, luogo dove tipicamente il pubblico si reca per osservare le opere di singoli artisti o collettive, relazionate ad una o più idee, diventa un recipiente di possibilità ed un forum aperto a tutte le idee creative. 

Il progetto “wALL” è stato aperto alla partecipazione di artisti a vari livelli della carriera artistica. In questo modo Studenti e Professori, Pittori e Artisti concettuali si ritrovano insieme a condividere le stesse pareti della Galleria. Iniziando con una piccola rete di persone, ai partecipanti è stato chiesto di inoltrare l’invito a loro volta ad altri Artisti, permettendo così al progetto di crescere e diffondersi spontaneamente, di comprendere ed inglobare mano a mano Artisti di nazionalità e lingue diverse ma condividenti un unico linguaggio artistico. 

Il fatto che siano presenti più di 100 Artisti partecipanti a questa esibizione è testimonianza della facilità e della velocità con cui l’informazione è condivisa e trasmessa nel 2010. 

Adesso, e più che mai è possibile comunicare, collaborare e condividere idee istantaneamente. Allo stesso tempo però, i benefici della tecnologia possono avere un effetto inverso, saturandoci con immagini, suoni ed informazioni. Per partecipare a questa esibizione in qualità di spettatori, siamo obbligati a fare una pausa  per leggere, visualizzare e riflettere, rallentando così il processo tramite il quale assorbiamo ed elaboriamo le informazioni. 

Agli studenti artisti di SRISA è stato chiesto di partecipare non solo alla realizzazione fisica dell’istallazione sul muro, ma anche a quella visuale e concettuale. 

L’installazione risultante è eco delle idee generate dagli stessi studenti che hanno collaborato, su come il progetto debba essere osservato e su come esso possa fornire uno sguardo al “dietro le quinte” del processo creativo che ha portato poi al risultato finale.

The exhibition entitled “wALL” will open at the SRISA Gallery of Contemporary Art on November 24th. Local, national and international artists were asked to participate in this installation by sending a short written description of a personal work of art or project.  The student artists at Santa Reparata, along with Rebecca Olsen (author of the project), and other SRISA faculty installed the exhibition by taking these written statements about singular works and transferring the text by hand onto the walls of the gallery. “wALL” is a project that speaks to creative process, and to the possibilities that technology now affords the artistic community. The gallery, typically a place we go to see works by specific artists or collective exhibitions relating to one or more ideas, becomes an open forum for all creative ideas. 

“wALL” was open to participation by artists at various stages of their careers. Thus, students and teachers, conceptual artists and painters are present in this project and their ideas sit side by side on the walls of the gallery. Starting with a small network of people, many participants were asked to forward the invitation on to other artists, permitting the project to grow naturally and encompass artists from around the world who speak different languages, but share the common language of art. 

The fact that there are more than 100 artist participants in the exhibition from all over the world is testimony to the ease and speed with which information is shared and transmitted in 2010. Now, more than ever, is it possible to communicate, collaborate, and share ideas instantly. At the same time, however, the benefits of technology can have an inverse effect by over-saturating us with images, sounds, and information. To participate in this exhibition as a viewer, we must pause to read, visualize and reflect, thus slowing down the process by which we absorb and process information. 

Student artists at SRISA were asked to participate, not only in the physical installation of the work on the walls, but also in the visual concept and layout of the exhibition.  The resulting installation echoes the ideas generated by the collaborating students on “how ” the work should be viewed and provides one with a behind-the-scenes glance of one level of the installation’s creative process.
