As part of their regular programme of exhibitions and events, StudioMADE will be hosting Walkie Talkie, a series of silent film screenings including artists from moving image network, LUX.
About
The featured artists include Guy Sherwin and Wales based artists Freya Dooley, Carol Breen, Zillah Bowes, Kerry Baldry, Sean Vicary, Paul Eastwood, Catherine Wynne-Paton, Laura Philips and Lauren Heckler.
The twilight screenings will be viewable through the windows of the Carriageworks on Love Lane in Denbigh, every evening from 27th January through to 3rd February 2024, 4.30 - 7.30pm.
A daylong event at Theatr Twm o’r Nant in Denbigh will also be held on Saturday 3rd February, in partnership with Benjamin Cook and Kim Knowles from LUX, which features silent films from LUX Wales artists and from the archive. The day will also involve a live performance by Guy Sherwin and a discussion chaired by Kim Knowles with LUX forum artists.
Walkie Talkie takes as its starting point the silent era of film before the ‘talkies’ – a transitional moment in 1920s, prior to the introduction of recorded dialogue to be played in sync with images on screen. The project explores the relationship between silence and listening, emphasising the meanings and associations that viewers themselves bring to the moving images.
On-street twilight film screenings are unticketed and open to the public. Tickets are bookable for the day-long event at Theatr Twm o’r Nant on 3rd February via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/walkie-talkie-tickets-794709245747?aff=oddtdtcreator.
