‘I Stood Up’ is a two-part event exploring what first-time voters want to tell Members of Parliament and Peers. The first part will be a making session where participants engage in the making process but also with fashion as a form of visual communication.
Following the make a Question Time style panel discussion will be held – open to the afternoon’s participants as well as members of the public to discuss their political concerns but also fashion in relation to these concerns.
Is the election in May the first time you will have the opportunity to vote in a General Election? If so, come and have your say at the House of Lords at an event specifically designed to gather together the voices of first time voters. Baroness Lola Young of Hornsey and the Centre for Sustainable Fashion want to hear your thoughts on the issues that are important to you as election campaign heats up.
Decisions made in government have an impact on all of our lives. With over 3 million young people eligible to vote for the first time in May we would love to hear what you’ve got to say. Come to the House of Lords, share and express your thoughts through the creation of a t-shirt.
Prior to the event we would like you to think about what matters to you, relating to issues in one or more of these five themes:
At the event you will work with a range of practitioners - poets, fashion designers and print makers - to express your concerns and ideas within one of these themes. Images of what you create will be sent to your current MP and form part of a conversation in the House of Lords later that evening at an event exploring the concerns raised during the afternoon - book here for the evening event.
