Visions in the Nunnery

Visions 2022 led by invited artists Patrick Goddard and film duo Webb-Ellis, who will show work alongside 42 artists hailing from 20 different countries across the globe, including China, Finland, Iran, Singapore and Ukraine. The works have been selected by Goddard and Webb-Ellis from the international open call, which this year drew 448 submissions from 48 countries. Not to be missed, Visions gives viewers the unique experience of a curated conversation of filmmakers from across the world.

Programme 1: Patrick Goddard | 7 Oct – 6 Nov 2022

Patrick Goddard’s Programme 1 will see the gallery transformed into one of the artist’s characteristic immersive installations, drawing on themes of the English garden, nostalgia, ecology, pets and abandonment. Read about Programme 1.

Programme 2: Webb-Ellis | 11 Nov – 18 Dec 2022

Webb-Ellis’s Programme 2 presents the London premiere of their new film This place is a message, in which they uniquely collaborate with young people from Gravesend to co-create an imaginary world and alternative environment for learning. Read about Programme 2.

About Visions

Visions offers an informed overview of the provocative and quick-changing mediums of moving image and performance, presenting works from across the world. Every other year we run different programmes and invite lead artists, renowned for their innovation in the digital field, to head and inspire each one. The ideas of the lead artists support the selection process and set the tone for the wider exhibition.

Established in 1999 and now planning for its 13th edition, Visions has exhibited artists including Oreet Ashery, Tacita Dean, Ori Gersht, Dryden Goodwin, Susan Hiller, Mikhail Karikis, Tina Keane, Lawrence Lek, Uriel Orlow and Heather Phillipson, many at the very early stages of their careers. Visions 2020 presented works from over 34 countries, headed by lead artists Hetain Patel (winner of the 2019 Jarman Award), Nye Thompson (2021 Lumen Prize gold winner) and Benedict Drew. Shown mid-pandemic, the exhibition took place partly in the Nunnery Gallery as well as online.

Visions in the Nunnery is curated by artist and selector Tessa Garland with Sophie Hill, Director of Arts + Events at Bow Arts.
