Oriel Wrecsam is delighted to present Victoria Lucas ’ film work, After, alongside newly commissioned sculptural work, as part of its PERICLO programme of exhibitions.
About
Victoria Lucas’ artworks are often initiated by a physical encounter with a place, site or landscape. Concentrating on these contexts and their current or former inhabitants, she develops conceptual narratives that subvert and categorise events and myths using a site’s materiality as a catalyst.
After is a documentary work that depicts the empty Castle Market in Sheffield shortly after it's doors had closed in 2013 and before its subsequent demolition in 2015. The film was created as part of a six week residency at the site, during which Lucas occupied an empty unit in the lower level of the market. A publication documenting the project and the closure of the building is available from Siop//Shop at Oriel Wrecsam.
The new work that will be exhibited alongside this film is made using found materials taken from Castle Market during the same aforementioned six-week residency.
Victoria Lucas is a Sheffield-based artist represented by Mark Deveraux Projects in Manchester. She studied at Norwich School of Art and Design and University of Leeds. She is currently a Fine Art Lecturer at UCLAN, Preston, whilst studying for her PhD at Sheffield Hallam University. Lucas works from her studio at Bloc Projects, Sheffield.
The next exhibition in PERICLO's programme will be 'Segrgrair' by Paul Eastwood, 27/10/2017 - 18/03/2017.
PERICLO is an Oriel Wrecsam exhibition programme supported by Wrexham County Borough Council, Arts Council Wales, Welsh Government and the National Lottery.
