For the year 2021, the theme of the opencall was called Silent Power Uncool being. We purposefully addressed communities embarking on their own and unique line of conceptual direction within their geographical scope. A kind of subset of the topic was the consideration of ecological aspects of creation, but also a swerve from the generally preferred position of "being cool" in society, meaning success, popularity, fitting into the trend.
In opencall, we focused on irreparable dreamers who intend to solve the current crisis within their artwork, as well as their dissatisfaction with being in a world whose main requirement seems to be being cool. We believe that the undercurrents of fine art can be the most interesting, so we called on artists and curators to embark on a journey to the very essence of a work of art and to revise the reasons that lead to its creation. In the selection, we preferred the environmental focus of the projects, communication within the group and a clear interpretation of the starting points and results towards the viewer, as well as attempts to solve the current climate crisis, however activist or utopian. At the same time, we assume that the events of the last year will be reflected in the preparations for the exhibition implementation of selected projects. Projects working purposefully with the concept of the artistic community and focusing on the use of materials that have become a waste of society or use materials in a particularly environmentally friendly way were also welcomed. Based on the submitted projects, we then tracked two main topics in selected projects, which we divided into blocks entitled ECOLOGICAL ANXIETY (I + II) and INTIMITY OUTPUTS (I + II).
Block One: Environmental anxiety directly addresses the fear of environmental loss caused by natural disasters, climate change or imbalances in the food chain, draws attention to air pollution and the metaphorical need to filter not only air but also information.
