The title of this joint exhibition ‘Urban and Suburban’ is a key to the subject matter as both artists share a fascination with the built environment although they explore their chosen imagery in radically different ways.
About
Mike Middleton RWS RE studied at Farnham Art School, Sheffield Polytechnic and Chelsea School of Art. He works largely in watercolour and acrylic but is also a printmaker. Occasionally work develops into three dimensions. His subject matter includes domestic architecture, gardens and landscape.
Debbie Ayles studied at Colchester School of Art. She uses water-based materials usually on paper. Being photosensitive she has to choose her palette carefully which dictates her colours and the stencil-like quality to her images. Drawn to glimpsed structures she plays with both the interior and exterior life of buildings.
Mike and Debbie are East Anglian artists whose work has been selected for ING Discerning Eye, Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, Royal Watercolour Society, New English Art Club and The London Group competitions.
Mike has exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and Debbie, the Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize and Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour.
This is an “Off-the-Wall” exhibition where work can be purchased and taken away during the show. There will be a re-hang in the second week.
