The recurrent subject of his works is a figure within an urban environment; this is influenced by Aslin’s personal interest in film and television. Paintings are often developed from his observations of city life caught on camera. These are then further explored digitally before being transferred to canvas, board or paper. Sense of space is created using a highly contrasting palette that reduces forms to their key elements, and attempts to distil the essence of each familiar scenario. I am drawn to subjects which allow me to develop this fully.
