Cambridge Film Festival - Microcinema New Artist’s Moving Image
2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the London Film-Makers’ Co-op.

About

The 36th Cambridge Film Festival’s Microcinema strand celebrates this milestone with 4 programmes of exciting new artist’s moving image films plus an immersive moving image installation at The Heong Gallery, Downing College, an untitled new commission by artist and experimental filmmaker Steve Farrer, plus a round table discussion with featured artists looking at where moving image is now, the past and the future.

A new commission by artist and experimental filmmaker Steve Farrer, the exhibition is an immersive installation, opening up questions around the spectator’s construction of time/space relations and activates the live context of watching. Shot in Bexhill’s De La Warr Pavilion. the principle sequence is based on the mesmerising and dream-like scene, The Kingdom of the Shades, from the French choreographer Marius Petipa’s La Bayadere, first performed in 1877. A long and slow repeated arabesque sequence, replicated in the multiple exposure of a single performer’s gesture, repeated and looped through the camera and projector.
