Trevor Price
Trevor Price is an award-winning artist who specialises in drypoint and etchings, handmade and hand printed in his studio. A master of his craft, it is the love of the process and the opportunity to experiment that draws Trevor to printmaking. Whilst subject matter and medium may vary, Trevor's work is influenced by his Cornish roots and the artistic heritage of St Ives where he lives and works. Settings are mainly coastal but personal references are also evident, including reflections on his own life, obsessions, favourite locations, and some complete fantasies.
The current series of work takes inspiration from nature. These highly detailed relief prints seem photographic at first glance but viewed up close the intricate detail of the mark-making and the abstraction of each aspect become apparent. Etched on 2mm polycarbonate sheets, Trevor uses a drypoint needle and a Dremel to make his expressive yet precise lines. It is a methodical process that can take up to 8 weeks for a single plate. With ink rolled over the surface, it is sent through an etching press with damp paper over the plate.
Trevor studied at Falmouth and Winchester Schools of Art and became an elected member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers in 1994 and their Vice President between 2013-2018. Trevor exhibits widely throughout Europe and his work features in prestigious collections worldwide, including the V&A, The Ashmolean, Guangdong Museum of Art (China) and Yale University (USA).
