Trenton Doyle Hancock: Skin and Bones, 20 Years of Drawing

For almost two decades, Trenton Doyle Hancock has developed an epic visual narrative in which mythical “Mounds” serve as the protagonists in an ongoing battle between good and evil. The artist’s colorful characters, vivid imagery and elaborate mythologies have earned international recognition.

Hancock’s monumental paintings, prints, and installations incorporate a wide-range of influences including comics, graphic novels, cartoons, music and film. Drawing plays a central role in all his work. Trenton Doyle Hancock: Skin & Bones, 20 Years of Drawing is the first in-depth examination of Hancock’s extensive body of drawings, collages and works on paper. The exhibition features more than seventy works of art as well as a collection of the artist’s notebooks, sketchbooks and models. This survey also provides a glimpse into the childhood beginnings of Hancock’s idiosyncratic vision, allowing us to understand the genesis of the artist’s mythology and how his work has evolved.
