About
To accompany the exhibition by Annie Cattrell RSA FRBS in the Ruskin Gallery, 21st April to 19th May 2017. Convened and chaired by Dr Marius Kwint, Reader in Visual Culture, University of Portsmouth.
Universities seek to transform lives and societies through education and research. Annie Cattrell’s forthcoming kinetic public artwork on the exterior of Anglia Ruskin University’s new Science Centre will celebrate this ideal by its ever-changing appearance. But what does transformation mean in practice? How can it occur physically, socially and mentally? How have such processes of metamorphosis and flux been experienced, understood and represented? In this interdisciplinary symposium, leading researchers trace the theme of transformation through art, architecture, history, psychology and physics in engaging ways. This event is aimed at general, learning-oriented audiences, but will also be of interest to experienced scholars in the humanities, social sciences and the interaction of science and art.
