To Lily With Love.. Exhibition runs throughout Deptford X 2012 27th July to 12th August To Lily With Love.. Is an exhibition of found and donated postcards, questioning the notion of status, profiles and location ‘check-ins' as a solely 21st century phenomena. The show looks at the role the postcard played as a channel of interaction with friends and family, and presents the audience with an analogue take on a fundamental human need to connect, that still continues in the present day in the form of facebook, twitter etc.. What hidden meanings lie beneath these images? Who are these people and places? Why are they important? Why were they printed? More importantly, why to our knowing, modern eyes do they seem so very peculiar? We have an existing collection of turn of the century portrait postcards, Italian baby portraits from the 1950's and 1960's, motorway hotel rooms, bleak seaside Bed and Breakfast accommodation, eastern block architecture etc. In the overloaded technological and digital age we now live in there is something wistful about the physical nature and journey of a postcard and the past lives and places they conjure up, and the fact that they represent a deep-seated need for us to connect.
