Six emerging artists in their final year of Royal College of Art Master Painting programme are sharing an artist lead and curated show in collaboration with SafeHouse / Copeland Gallery.
About
This exhibition interrogates how bodily sensation mediates with the symbolic through six artists’ exploration of the topic. Whether scientifically, physiologically or psychologically, the body can be interpreted in many different ways, with the places it resides leaving its mark for the artist to trace in a variety of signifiers. Acting as place holders the signifiers speak of echoes and rhythms of history to draw new timelines.
Working in a range of media including installation, drawing, painting and sculpture, Pippa-El-Kadhi Brown, Emily Kraus, Pia Ortuño, Anna Blom, Joseph Aina and Adam Smith each explore a different function of painting, questioning, distorting and reimagining the already presupposed ideas surrounding the notions of artistic traditions.
