About
As part of Simpson’s first solo exhibition in the UK, Through Viscera presents a series of new works in progress which investigate the transition of the Mark between multiple dimensions — literally into the Worm Hole – evoking the latent potential of organic slurry, flourishing protozoa, worm bed motion, subcutaneous shedding, and solidification of the carapace-cum-cavern.
Alex Simpson’s work undulates through states of fluidity and solidification, drawing upon an intimate behavioral knowledge of ancient materials such ink and clay body, to expand notions of the ‘in-between’ during the petrification of writhing organic matter.
Alex Simpson (b. 1988, UK) received an MA in Ceramics from the RCA in 2015 and was the recipient of the 2015 ArtWorks Open Solo Award from the Barbican Arts Group which made this exhibition possible.
