About
Our entire living reality is determined by a large number of economic, ecological, political, and social structures. When we order these often irrefutable-seeming givens and the objects surrounding us, we construct systems of interpretation to organize and make intelligible the complex conditions in which we live.
Although these systems give a certain sense of security, they also produce moments of exclusion. Cultural spaces often unintentionally reproduce such structures although they attempt to challenge and act against them. In this edition of the Theorie Mittwoch we explore the complexity behind the very act of challenging such structures. What forms of discrimination exist in the cultural hybrid spaces of Berlin and how can these spaces open up, moving beyond merely questioning the structures to actually implementing change.
Clare Molloy assistant curator in the Gropius Bau, explores these questions together with the author SchwarzRund and the activist and curator, Erkan Affan. This event will be held in English.
