About
The Robot Street Boudoir.
28 November – 23 December
MMX Gallery is proud to launch its latest exhibition of contemporary drawing and graphic illustration.
Featuring artists Rosie Beard, Jessica Childs and Scott Liston, the show presents a medley of graphic styles straddling candid realism and playful fancy. From the brutalist tower blocks of Deptford in Childs’ series comes a satirical commentary on the banal existences of local inhabitants and the bleak landscape of everyday life, all the while maintaining an aesthetic edge in pastel pinks and cream. Liston’s contribution to the show dwells upon our increasing virtual social existence and considers the pros and cons to digital media and our emotional intelligence. Though thematically grounded in realism, his works permeate the centre of a visually surreal world. Inspired by folkloric imagery, Rosie Beard evokes the multifaceted rubric of eroticism throughout her work: its associations with female submission and performance, yet conversely empowerment and agency. Her drawings of buxom ladies propel notions of the classical nude into the 21st century with a necessary crude realism.
All three artists offer different visual styles and methods which makes this exhibition a graphic feast for the eyes at an innovative new gallery.
