Drawing inspiration from The Stettheimer Dollhouseby Carrie Walter Stettheimer, which presented original works by renowned artists of the early 20th century in miniature form, McBeer’s West Village townhouse creates a dialogue between the engagement of art in the digital age and the historical tradition of dollhouse-making.

New ways of information consumption have disrupted the traditions surrounding art-making, viewing and buying. We view art through social media instead of visiting gallery exhibitions, acquire work through PDFs instead of in person, and follow artists through websites instead of traveling for studio visits. These behaviors question the role that physical gallery spaces and real-life dealers play in this digital landscape--a landscape McBeer exploits to the fullest.

Freed from the confines of a physical, large-scale space and an actual identity, Water McBeer established his gallery in 2010 to provide a platform for both emerging and established artists to present their work on a miniature scale.
