The Other Art Fair, presented by Saatchi Art, returns to the Old Truman Brewery in March for the 19th London edition of the vibrant artist-led fair.

About

Some of the most exciting emerging and independent artists practising today will exhibit work alongside a dynamic programme of features, including guest exhibitions, creative workshops, engaging panel talks and interactive experiences. Overseen by The Other Art Fair Founder Ryan Stanier and UK Fair Director Jessica Chow the March fair features a rich selection of sculpture, works on paper, photography and painting. The diverse line-up of international artists includes advertising boss turned artist Dave Buonaguidi whose much loved Make Tea Not War poster sits in the V&A Collection; Winner of Landscape Artist of the Year Fujiko Rose; and Taiwanese artist Yimiao Shih, known for Rabbrexit, her ongoing embroidered satire on Brexit.

Comedian, actor, artist and musician Noel Fielding is guest artist this March and will be showcasing an exclusive exhibition of new paintings and releasing a limited-edition print.

Further highlight artists include Ben Wakeling, founder of Outsider Gallery, London’s first mental health art gallery showing original works from NHS Mental Health services, prisons and secure units. Combining body printing and embroidery, London-born model and artist Kesewa Aboah marries her love of both worlds by creating extraordinary, flamboyant and intricately stitched artworks. Tom Van Herrewege will exhibit The Eraser, a collaborative artwork inviting visitors to wipe out parts of his large-scale drawing to show the devastating impact humans have on animals. Plus, hyperrealist painter James Earley whose evocative and challenging portraits compel the viewer to confront vital issues as homelessness, refugees and victims of war.

Artist Luke Adam Hawker has made it his incredible mission to draw each and every one of the 54 designated Great Trees of London. The list includes the Brockwell Park Oak, one of 13 on the list and a mere sapling 600 years ago at the time of the War of the Roses. The Cheapside Plane, one of 14 survivors is thought to have been planted as a memorial to the Great Fire of London 1666. “I’ve always found trees very emotive, each with its own character,” he says, and Londoners who see him working are equally proud of these Great Trees. Although it may take him another six or seven years to capture all the surviving 54 Great Trees, he is passionate about the project knowing this lasting record will stand long after these incredible trees have vanished.

For the fair’s entrance, art and fashion curator Ryan Lanji will present Perspectives of Courage, a thought-provoking celebration of the emerging talent exploring just what it means to be a South Asian artist working today. Visitors will experience a unique interactive showcase of contemporary art commenting on power structures, identity politics, culture and upbringing.

The CALM Art Collective is a collaboration with Charity Partner Campaign Against Living Miserably, a leading movement against suicide. Building a creative space for artists and art lovers to chat, collaborate and inspire each other, it provides an opportunity to engage in a meaningful dialogue about mental health, showing how art can prove fundamental in addressing and coping with issues surrounding mental wellbeing. The collective will be exhibiting artwork made by members, chosen and curated by artist duo The Connor Brothers, inspired by an object that resonates with them. 100% of the sale proceeds will be donated to the vital work undertaken by CALM. There will be weekend workshops, alongside a collaborative art piece, encouraging visitors to get creative and contribute to a paint by numbers mural.

20/20 project space is curated by Aida Wilde & Ego.A.Sowinski and brings together the work of forty exciting international artists. Their work comprises painting, photography, textiles, printmaking, video, sound, sculpture, graphic design and illustration. Promising ‘an immersive and engaging creative experience’, including the Friday Night Late collaborative takeover DISCO with the Black Obsidian Sound System, Nail Art, an ‘In Conversation’ panel talk and a wellbeing session.

The Luxury Collection will showcase their unrivalled portfolio of European resorts, with an authentic sensory installation at the fair featuring artwork by artist Jo Hummel Newell. Offering a tranquil break from the bustling fair, the activation will transport guests to the idyllic settings of Greece’s sun-bleached islands and provide an opportunity to indulge in the country’s most exceptional epicurean offerings, complete with the best tastes and experiences of Greece.

The 2020 London selection committee includes Rebecca Wilson, Chief Curator and VP Art Advisory, Saatchi Art; Kaia Charles, Cultural Commissioner and Curator, NOW Gallery; Art Critic Tabish Khan; and Joe Kennedy, Co-founder and Director, Unit Gallery London.

Hailed as ‘the future of art’ by The Guardian, The Other Art Fair is one of the most exciting showcases for independent and emerging artists, offering those building their art collections and first-time buyers the chance to buy work directly from the next generation of art stars from across the globe, with editions now in London, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Sydney and Melbourne.
